Stelos Superstar: Meagan Jurica

3 Jul

The Distinguished Young Bobcat Award is the newest scholarship to be offered by the Stelos Alliance. Our vision was to create a scholarship for an incoming freshman at Texas State University – a student who showed a track record of academic success, demonstrated campus-wide influence and above-average extracurricular involvement.

We were looking for a student like Meagan Jurica, the inaugural recipient of the Distinguished Young Bobcat Award.

Meagan recently graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Schulenburg, Texas where it is obvious she left her mark. As an active student in her school, Meagan participated in the National Honor Society and her school’s marching/concert band during all four years of high school – serving as vice president for both organizations during her senior year.

Meagan also held leadership roles outside of the classroom. She was selected by her golf coach to be the team captain, a role that she describes as one of her greater accomplishments.

Upon being awarded this scholarship, Meagan said, “I was overwhelmed and humbled that I was selected out of all the applicants. It means the world to me that y’all are helping kids pursue and achieve their dreams.”

This fall, Meagan will join the class of 2018, as she begins the Communication Disorders program at Texas State University. She plans on using the scholarship to help fund a portion of her education expenses.

Texas State is called the Rising Star of Texas – and with a student like Meagan Jurica, we’re sure that star will rise a little higher.

Andrew Henley is a935892_623275317693372_2145703198_n 2013 graduate of Texas State University, where he received his Bachelor of Public Administration. He currently works as the Marketing Coordinator for Commercial Wireless Solutions – a telecommunication company based in Houston. Andrew is a long time member of the Stelos Alliance family, as he is a Housley alum, a former Stelos Fellow and a past scholarship recipient. Andrew is actively “coming alive” through his job, volunteer work, this Distinguished Young Bobcat Award or his personal blog – My Freshman Year of Life. This native Houstonian is a proud Texan, but an even prouder Texas State Bobcat.
