Stelos Superstar: Jonathan Gonzales

23 Apr

Speak to Jonathan Gonzales and he’s going to really listen; he’s going to actively pay attention, ponder over the idea and give you a warm smile. During every Housley session, Jonathan provided thoughtful and unique perspectives. This is one of the many reasons Jonathan was selected as the recipient of a Spring 2014 Housley Principled Leadership Scholarship.

Jonathan is a well-rounded leader on campus, serving his community as an Orientation Leader and a Resident Assistant at Gaillardia Hall. He is a Mass Communications major with a focus in Electronic Media and hopes to one day become a photojournalist.

Gonzales says his most valuable takeaway from the Housley Program is the concept of the 10,000 hour rule. Before this concept, Jonathan says he believed he was going to just graduate from college and make it to the level of his parents. But now he realizes that to truly get what you want, you have to work very hard for it.

Helping students discover what makes them come alive is a core tenet of the Housley Program; Jonathan credits this semester with helping him clarify what he values a little more: making great connections with people and building strong relationships. It’s his dream to be able to do this for the rest of his life.

We were thrilled to have the opportunity to invest in Jonathan and can’t wait to see what he does as an alumnus of the Housley Tribe!
