Bill Hogue and Student Foundation Scholarships

12 Feb

Bill Hogue was an involved young man while he attended Southwest Texas State in the late 1980’s. He was a member of Student Foundation, an Orientation Leader and a Texas State Cheerleader. In addition to teaching classes for the Catholic Student Organization, Bill was an active member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Bill maintained this high level of involvement while working full-time to pay for his schooling.

Just six weeks after graduation in December 1987, Bill was tragically killed. His death shocked all those whose lives he touched. To honor his memory, a memorial scholarship was established in his name.

For over twenty years, the scholarship has been awarded to a member of Texas State University’s Student Foundation in the amount of $5,000.  We’re excited this year to announce that, with the generous support of the Student Foundation and Stelos Alliance families, we are increasing the award to $10,000.

The scholarship will be given to a student who exhibits the same enthusiasm and pride in Texas State that characterized Bill’s college life.

In addition to the Bill Hogue Memorial Scholarship, Stelos has traditionally offered five $1,000 Student Foundation Scholarships, to members of the organization for their dedication to service, loyalty and leadership. We are excited to announce that we are also doubling those scholarships from $1,000 to $2,000 each!

We believe in empowering extraordinary young leaders; increasing scholarship payouts year- over-year is one way we do it. Thanks again to the folks who have already generously contributed to our Student Foundation Scholarship fund; if you have an affinity for Student Foundation, we invite you to join us in the work of helping make stars shine brighter.

Scholarship applications will open on February 21st and will close on March 21st. The qualified applicants selected to receive the Bill Hogue scholarship and Student Foundation scholarships will be recognized at the Stelos Alliance Awards Banquet on Sunday, April 27, 2014.
