Showing Up

28 Sep

The world is run by those who show up.

Sometimes the first step a leader takes is choosing to join the conversation.

This means doing the opposite of what nearly everyone else is doing.

Instead of playing video games, you start something new. Instead of spending time with people you always spend time with, you opt to attend an event put on by an organization with a membership different than your peer group. You show up to a guest lecture one of your professors is giving in the evening. You take advantage of your university president’s office hours. You go to public university fee increase hearings.

There are groups all over the place asking for your involvement – boards, committees and councils. Will you be one of the few students that shows up and is included in the conversation?

Those who know the conversation are those equipped to lead.

Equip yourself, diversify yourself and go to every university event you can possibly go to.

The door is wide open.
